Week 5 Little Hero of the Week

For the 3rd time this season Anthony Rizzo has been named Little Hero of the week.

Two of the three players to rank ahead of Triple-A Tucson's Anthony Rizzo (Padres) in the Pacific Coast League batting race also play first base—and both the Royals' Eric Hosmer and the Blue Jays' David Cooper have been called to the big leagues in the past week. The 21-year-old Rizzo continues doing his part to get that same call. He batted 10-for-31 (.323) this week with two homers, three doubles, a triple (.677 slugging) and 13 RBIs. His eagerness to please also was apparent with nine strikeouts and zero walks. Regardless, Rizzo leads the PCL (or shares the lead) in six categories: home runs (nine), RBIs (41), hits (44), slugging (.741), extra-base hits (20) and total bases (83) . . .

Week 4 Hero of the Week

The Hero's get there first win of the season beating Jake 11-5, so many players could have been up for the award but it goes to SS Elvis Andrus Tex. Andrus lead the Hero's in hits (10), runs (7) and steals (4) for the week.

Final line looked 10/30 .333 7R 2RBI 4steals 2BB.

The Scoop: The reigning top position-player prospect from the Appalachian League, Arcia's potent bat has helped him overcome a lack of defensive value in the early going. The Twins debated holding Arcia back in extended spring training because of elbow and shoulder ailments, but they ultimately decided to send him to Beloit to DH and make his full-season debut. The buzz of Twins' minor league camp, he has met those lofty expectations even even with one hand pinned behind his back. Arcia leads the Midwest League with his .694 slugging percentage, and he came on strong last week after taking an 0-for-5 (with two walks) in an April 23 doubleheader. He collected a hit in the next four contests, going 9-for-16 with five extra-base hits.

Golden Arm: Zach Lee has struck out 21 over his first three pro starts

The Dodgers had to ante the largest bonus they've ever given any draftee to sign 2010 first-rounder Zach Lee away from his Louisiana State football commitment. It's still very early, but Lee's already added to his repertoire while carving up Midwest League hitters in his first taste of pro ball.

Week 3 Little Hero of the Week

First Repeat winner of the season, 1B Anthony Rizzo had 12 hits this week and hit 3 more HR's. Rizzo also chipped in 8 RBI and scored 9 times. Rizzo is hitting .424 on the year with 6 HR's and 24 RBI, with 1.255OPS. Not bad for a 21 year old in AAA.

Week 3 Hero of the Week

SP Brett Anderson of Oak was named Hero of the week. Anderson made two starts for the struggling Hero's and turned in two gems. Final line for the week was 2-0 15inn 14k's 1ER (0.60era) with a whip of 0.73. Seaon line looks like this for Anderson is 2-1 with an ERA of 1.56 and a whip of 1.01. Anderson has made 5 starts pitching 34.2inn and striking out 27.

Week 2 Little Hero of the Week

1B Anthony Rizzo was named little Hero of the Week. Rizzo knocked out 12 hits over the week, including 2 HR's and 9 RBI's. Rizzo on the year is batting .390avg with and an OPS of 1.139.

Week 2 Hero of the Week

Jay Bruce named Hero of the week, Bruce lead the team this week in hits, avg, runs, HR, and RBI. Bruce's line was 7/20 .350avg 2HR 6runs 6RBI with an ops 1.085.

Little Hero of Week One

Logan Forsythe had a great opening week, he collected at least one hit in all 4 games. His line for the week was .429avg 6h 2HR 6RBI 8Runs 6BB 1.548OPS

Hero of Week One

Dustin Pedroia was named Hero of the week. Pedroia started the season off strong with .400avg 14H 1HR 5RBI 5runs 2BB 1.019OPS

Manny's Done

Manny Ramirez stay on the Heroes was not long, last 1 CPL week infact.

According to Joel Sherman of the New York Post, Manny Ramirez failed a drug test during spring training.He was notified about one week ago and decided to retire rather than appeal. Ramirez would have faced a 100-game suspension for a second positive test, so the Rays wouldn't have had him back until much later in the summer. For what it's worth, Ramirez probably just kissed any chance of the Hall of Fame goodbye. It will be interesting to see where the Rays go from here, as they could call up Desmond Jennings and move Johnny Damon to designated hitter. Jennings is certainly someone to watch in mixed leagues. Matt Joyce and Sam Fuld figure to benefit in the short-term.

Cahill Signed

According to Jerry Crasnick of ESPN.com, the Athletics and Trevor Cahill have reached agreement on a multi-year contract, pending a physical.
The terms of the contract aren't yet available, but the deal will likely cover his arbitration seasons. Cahill, 23, went 19-9 with a 2.97 ERA and 1.11 WHIP over 30 starts last season and is off to a quick start over his first two starts this year with a 1.42 ERA and 15 strikeouts over 12 2/3 innings.

This is good news for Kelly's Heroes, Cahill much better staying in Oakland long term.
